Mazda CX-7 Timing Chain & Turbo Replacement
CX7 TIMING CHAIN FAILURE
A stretched timing chain on a CX7 2.3L Petrol engine is all too common. The most common symptom of this fault is a rattling noise on first start up. Often, as the chain stretches more, you can get a rattling noise all the time which is best described as sounding like a diesel engine. If left for too long, the chain can even break, causing major engine damage.
THE SOLUTION
There are no two ways about it, your timing chain needs to be replaced! We carry out this job using genuine revised parts. We replace the timing chain, guides, tensioner and the VVT sprocket. We replace all seals and give you peace of mind with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE on our workmanship as well as Mazdas 12 month 20,000km guarantee on the parts. We also change the engine oil and filter so your new timing chain can be well lubricated as it wears in.
We have done this job many times before, please don’t be fooled by someone offering a cheaper price and only doing half the job! It is very important to replace all components and use quality genuine parts.

CX7 TURBOCHARGER FAILURE
The other common fault with the CX7 2.3L turbo engine is failure of the turbocharger itself. Fortunately, this fault is completely avoidable! Though if you are reading this, its quite likely that it is too late.
Usually, improper servicing results in deterioration of the engine oil. The engine oil feed line for the turbocharger builds up with carbon deposits and eventually becomes blocked enough that it restricts oil flow to the turbo. Once this happens your turbocharger bearing fails due to lack of lubrication and overheating.
Leading up to a turbo failure, you will usually hear an increasingly loud turbo whine that gets worse and worse. The engine will lose power and start blowing a heap of blue/grey smoke.

THE SOLUTION
We replace the turbocharger with a quality genuine unit. We replace all gaskets and seals in the process. This is all common sense, but there are 3 things that we do that can save you a massive headache down the track.
HOW TO STOP TURBOCHARGER FAILURE
Change your engine oil! That’s it, change it using a good quality semi-synthetic oil every 6 months or 10,000km as a MINIMUM. Synthetic oil is better, more frequent oil changes are also better!
Another good technique to increase turbocharger life is allowing your engine to cool down before switching it off. Let it idle for a minute or 2 so that the oil in the turbo can circulate and cool down. When oil sits in a super-heated turbocharger, it can break down and cause carbon deposits that can restrict oil flow and put you back to square one!
